[EN] This article describes and compares immigration\udcontrol policies and their outcomes in different countries\udand migration systems in the last decades. In the three\uddecades after the Second World War migration and\udrefugees issues received little attention in public debates.\udThe quest to control migration flows has in many senses\udproved elusive. Although governments have been keen to\uddemonstrate their capacity to limit the number of immigrants,\udseveral domestic and international factors have combined to\udfrustrate their attempts.
